In a move that continues to delight VR enthusiasts and potential buyers, Meta has once again extended its promotional offer for the Quest 3, bundling a free copy of the critically acclaimed VR game, Asgard’s Wrath 2, with every purchase of the headset. Initially set to conclude at the end of January, the offer has seen multiple extensions, with the latest pushing the deadline to June 30, 2024.

Asgard’s Wrath 2 VR – short overview

“Asgard’s Wrath 2” is an action role-playing game (RPG) developed by Sanzaru Games and published by Oculus Studios, exclusively for the Meta Quest series of virtual reality (VR) headsets. Released worldwide in December 2023, it serves as the sequel to the 2019 game “Asgard’s Wrath.” The game is set in a mythological world where players take on the role of a Norse god who possesses mortals with significant destinies to seek revenge on Loki, exploring both Norse and Egyptian mythologies. Players can explore an open world, interact with gods from Egyptian mythology, solve puzzles, and engage in combat with enemies and bosses, assisted by followers who have their own stories. “Asgard’s Wrath 2” has been praised for its immersive VR gameplay, intricate puzzle design, and semi-open-world environments, offering a unique blend of action and adventure that pushes the boundaries of VR gaming.

Asgard’s Wrath 2 has been hailed as one of the most ambitious and high-quality VR games to date. The game, which offers over 60 hours of made-for-VR RPG gameplay with open-world elements, has received widespread acclaim from critics and players alike. Notably, it has been awarded a 10/10 “masterpiece” rating from IGN and has been praised for its “awe-inspiring sequences of truly god-like proportions”. Despite some criticism for its “flatscreen-derivative structure,” the game’s overall reception has been overwhelmingly positive, earning it the title of 2023 Quest Game of the Year.

The promotional bundle is available for both the 128GB and 512GB versions of the Quest 3, but customers must remember to redeem the game before the June 30 deadline. While Asgard’s Wrath 2 is also playable on Quest 2 and Quest Pro, owners of these headsets are required to purchase the game separately for $60, making it the most expensive title on the platform.

Asgard’s Wrath 2 was initially launched without any Quest 3-specific enhancements, despite the new headset’s superior performance capabilities. However, a patch released shortly after launch introduced increased resolution, framerate, and levels of detail (LODs), marking the first of several planned upgrades to fully leverage the Quest 3’s hardware.

This extension of the free game offer underscores Meta’s commitment to bolstering the Quest 3’s appeal and enriching the VR ecosystem with high-quality content. Asgard’s Wrath 2 not only sets a new bar for VR gaming in terms of scale and production quality but also serves as a compelling incentive for consumers considering the Quest 3 as their next VR headset purchase.
