As Automobilista 2 (AMS2) approaches its fourth anniversary, Reiza Studios has announced a series of exciting developments and updates that are set to elevate the racing simulator to new heights. The upcoming V1.6 update, slated for release in the summer of 2024, is poised to be the most significant yet, promising major new features and content. Before this major update, a smaller V1.5.6 update is expected to be deployed by the end of March, bringing valuable developments and a sneak peek into the future enhancements.

IMSA Official Partnership

In a landmark announcement, Reiza Studios has revealed that AMS2 is now an official partner of the International Motorsports Association (IMSA). This partnership aims to bring the 2024 IMSA season’s teams, cars, and venues into the virtual world of AMS2, with direct support from IMSA. While the integration of the full 2024 season is a work in progress, fans can expect major additions to arrive with the V1.6 update, and subsequent updates will continue to complete the ensemble.

IMSA – short description

The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) is a sports car racing sanctioning body based in North America, specifically in Daytona Beach, Florida. It was founded in 1969 by John Bishop, a former executive director of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), and his wife Peggy, with assistance from Bill France Sr. of NASCAR. IMSA operates under the jurisdiction of the ACCUS arm of the FIA and is owned by NASCAR. The organization is known for sanctioning the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, which is the premier series resulting from the merger of Grand-Am Road Racing and the American Le Mans Series in 2014. IMSA serves as the exclusive strategic partner in North America with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), which operates the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Graphics and LiveTrack Improvements

The V1.5.6 update will introduce enhanced graphics for both cars and tracks, with minimal impact on performance. Tracks will feature 3D trees in immediate trackside surroundings, and a new water shader will provide more life-like lakes, rivers, and seas. The Ibarra circuit, in particular, is showcased with these improvements. Additionally, the LiveTrack system is receiving updates to better represent the dynamics of the track, including a more distinctive rubbered-in racing line and dustier edges that reflect lower grip.

Physics Development

The physics of AMS2 are also getting an upgrade, with a focus on tire thermodynamics, wear, and hysteresis. The V1.5.6 update will introduce V1.6 physics for two classes, with the full physics overhaul to be included in the V1.6 update. Physics developer Tom Tessmer explains that the hysteresis developments will simulate the compression and rebound of rubber on the track surface, affecting grip as the tire slides. This work is directly related to the upcoming thermo, wear, and damage revisions.

Content Updates

The Stock Car Pro Series 2024 season will be updated with new rules and the latest physics developments. Additionally, the Formula Ultimate Gen2 class is receiving a significant overhaul, including a new 3D model, updated sounds, and new technical features to better simulate a modern GP car.

Steam Sale and Hiring Expansion

AMS2 and all its DLCs are currently on sale with a 50% discount, making it an opportune time for players to complete their collection. Reiza Studios is also expanding its team to keep up with the new partnerships and demands for more complex features, seeking C++ code engineers and 3D artists, among others.

Looking Ahead

The March 2024 development update is just a preview of what’s to come, with more detailed articles expected monthly until the release of V1.6. Reiza Studios is committed to providing a comprehensive and evolving racing experience, with AMS2 receiving regular updates that introduce new features, improvements, and content.

Fans of AMS2 have much to look forward to as the simulator continues to grow and improve, offering an increasingly realistic and immersive racing experience. With the official IMSA partnership and the upcoming V1.6 update, AMS2 is set to reach new levels of authenticity and excitement for racing enthusiasts around the world.
