Martin Rumenov Buffalo Buffalo’s cozy birdwatching sim Birdseed VR has officially flown out of early access and into its full 1.0 release on Meta Quest, accompanied by a fresh launch trailer and a substantial feature update. Available now on Quest 3 and 3s via the Meta Horizon Store, the free-to-play title expands its relaxing photography gameplay with full social multiplayer, deeper progression, and an expanded cast of birds to discover.
Full 1.0 launch on Quest
Launching on April 30, 2026, the 1.0 version brings Birdseed VR’s Early Access journey to a close, marking the debut of its complete feature set on Meta Quest headsets. While players on Quest can dive into the full release today, the previously planned Steam VR version has been pushed back and is now expected later in 2026.
Jump into social birdwatching
Multiplayer, first introduced during Early Access, receives further polish and bug fixes in the 1.0 update, making it easier to go birding with friends. Up to three players can now share a session, with join codes allowing you to quickly create and enter private lobbies and explore the forest together.
Scout’s Store and cosmetic upgrades
With 1.0, Scout’s Store is fully open for business, offering a range of cosmetic items that let players personalize their photography kits. New lens skins, camera charms, polaroid-style frames, and other premium cosmetics are available, with Buffalo Buffalo emphasizing that Birdseed VR remains non–pay-to-win and that these purchases are optional flair for your adventures.
Smarter, livelier birds
The update also focuses heavily on making the birds themselves feel more alive and expressive. New animations let them peck, perch, doze off, and even occasionally poop, while revised flight paths are based on real-world bird behavior, giving each species more convincing movement through the canopy.
Progression, challenges, and rewards
Birdseed VR’s progression systems have been expanded so that observing and documenting wildlife feels more rewarding. Completing a bird’s full behavior set now unlocks bonus equipment and cosmetics tracked in your Life List, while weekly and daily Journal challenges, along with a Trail Pass introduced with the day-one patch, provide recurring objectives and special rewards for regular play.
New lenses and more birds to capture
To support a broader bestiary, the 1.0 release adds new Super and Ultra Telephoto lenses that allow players to photograph shy or distant species that were previously out of reach. These upgrades help showcase an expanded roster of birds spread across Field Guides 3–5, effectively doubling the number of species and encouraging deeper exploration of the game’s forest environments.
Early Bird bonuses and where to learn more
Players who supported Birdseed VR during Early Access will find their purchased “Early Bird Bundle” rewards automatically transferred into their in-game inventory with the 1.0 launch. The bundles remain available in Scout’s Store at a new post-launch price for anyone joining the flock after release.
