Martin Rumenov Updated Demo Lands at February’s Steam Next Fest
Buffalo Buffalo has rolled out a refreshed Birdseed VR demo for the February Steam Next Fest, inviting virtual birdwatchers to try new tools and spot new species ahead of the game’s full 1.0 launch later this year. The SteamVR demo is live now and will remain available to play until March 2, 2026.
Telephoto Lens and New Journal Backpack
The highlight of the new build is a telephoto lens that players can unlock and upgrade using bottlecaps earned during play, making it easier to capture detailed shots of distant or shy birds. A new Backpack tab in the in-game Journal streamlines equipment management, allowing players to store, sort, and filter lenses and other future gear as their loadout grows.
More Birds and Field Guides to Unlock
Fresh bird species have joined the forest, expanding the variety of subjects available to photograph in each session. Players can purchase Field Guides in the Equipment store to reveal additional daily birds in the spawn pool, encouraging regular returns to discover what new feathered visitors show up.
Looking Ahead to the 1.0 Release
The demo offers a glimpse of what’s planned for Birdseed VR’s 1.0 release, including cozy online multiplayer where friends can relax together, share photos, and enjoy the soundscape in shared environments. Daily quests, a star-rated shot scoring system tracked in the Journal, and carefully tuned spatial audio with unique calls for each species aim to deepen both progression and immersion.

Birdseed VR is designed to be fully playable while seated, letting players line up the perfect shot without needing to physically move around their room. This focus on comfort, combined with relaxed birdwatching and photography, positions the game as a laid-back VR escape for players who want a low-pressure way to unwind.

Steam Demo Live Now, Quest Perks Coming
PC VR users can jump into the updated Birdseed VR demo on Steam throughout Steam Next Fest and continue playing until March 2, 2026. Quest 3 and 3s owners interested in covering the March 2026 1.0 launch can request review keys and unlock the Mallard Pack, with distribution already open for content creators and influencers ahead of release.
