New launch date set for Meta Quest 3/3s

Vancouver-based studio Buffalo Buffalo’s cozy birdwatching sim Birdseed VR is taking a little extra time in the nest, with its full 1.0 release on Meta Quest 3 and 3s now slated for April 30, 2026, while a SteamVR version is planned for later in the year. The updated date was confirmed alongside a new release trailer, with the team emphasizing that the delay from the original March 2026 window will be used to further polish the experience before it leaves Early Access.

Full 1.0 update wraps Early Access

Birdseed VR 1.0 will mark the end of the game’s Early Access phase on Quest and introduce fully featured social multiplayer so players can go birding together in small groups. The launch build will also expand the in-game photography toolkit with additional lenses and camera options, supported by a premium storefront offering cosmetic items and other optional extras.

More lifelike birds and bigger flocks

A major focus of the 1.0 update is making virtual birdlife feel more authentic and expressive, with new behavior systems that let birds peck, perch, doze off, and follow flight paths inspired by real-world patterns. The release will also significantly increase variety, adding many more bird species alongside an expanded lens lineup that includes Super and Ultra Telephoto options designed to help players fill out later Field Guides.

Birdseed VR progression and rewards

Trail Pass and rewards-driven progression

Progression is getting a boost through the Trail Pass feature, which layers in fresh weekly challenges that grant special rewards for completing in-game objectives. Dedicated virtual birders can also chase exclusive cosmetics and items by thoroughly documenting species and behaviors, making exploration and careful observation more rewarding over time.

Perks for Early Bird Bundle owners

Players who picked up Birdseed VR’s Early Bird Bundles will find their bonus items ready and waiting in their inventory at the 1.0 launch, ensuring a smooth transition from Early Access to the full game. In the meantime, Quest 3 and 3s owners can already jump into the Early Access version—complete with the latest multiplayer update—to start birding with friends ahead of the April 30 rollout.
