DIG VR: From Italian Roots to English Innovation

Wired Productions has unveiled a new video, “Making Of: Episode 1,” featuring Managing Director Leo Zullo as he reflects on the origins of the innovative DIG VR concept, which began in Tuscany, Italy. The project was inspired by a heartfelt story of the bond between a father and son, set against the backdrop of a family farm.

In March 2020, as COVID-19 led to widespread lockdowns across Europe, Zullo found himself at his family home in Italy, caring for his ailing father. Faced with the choice of returning to the UK or staying with his father, he chose to remain. This house was not just a residence; it was built by his father with the hope that their family would one day live together on the land.

During this period of isolation, Zullo felt compelled to engage with the land. After several unsuccessful attempts to demolish a 50-meter wall using a tractor, he opted to hire a digger. Ignoring safety protocols, he learned to operate the machine with his father observing and occasionally offering guidance. This experience reignited his father’s spirit.

While maneuvering the digger, Zullo noticed that the controls resembled those of virtual reality (VR) handsets. This realization sparked the idea for DIG VR, leading Wired Productions to collaborate with developer Just Add Water to transform this vision into reality.
