The United States Air Force, in collaboration with the Drone Racing League (DRL), is set to launch a groundbreaking drone racing championship event in 2025, aimed at enhancing talent recruitment efforts. The event, named the DRL U.S. Air Force Miami Invitational, is scheduled for February 1, 2025, at loanDepot Park in Miami. Tickets for the event went on sale on October 22, 2024.
The Drone Racing League, known as the leading professional drone racing organization, has partnered with the U.S. Air Force to create an event that merges sports entertainment with advanced technology. This initiative is designed to attract young tech enthusiasts and potential recruits by showcasing the opportunities available within the Air Force for careers in STEM fields.

For the first time, the U.S. Air Force will host a DRL Championship event, connecting millions of young fans with career opportunities in technology and aviation. The event will feature Evan “Headsup” Turner, a two-time DRL World Champion and broadcast commentator, who will participate as the U.S. Air Force Team Pilot.
The Miami Invitational marks the first major event for DRL since its acquisition by Infinite Reality (iR), a company focused on digital media and e-commerce innovations through AI and immersive technologies. The event will transform loanDepot Park into a dynamic arena where top drone pilots navigate high-speed drones through challenging aerial courses.
Twelve pilots will compete from the U.S. Air Force Flight Deck, navigating custom-designed courses in front of an audience of 10,000 spectators. The race promises thrilling action with drones reaching speeds over 90 mph as they maneuver through complex obstacles.

Rachel Jacobson, President of Business Ventures & Partnerships at Infinite Reality, emphasized that the partnership between DRL and the U.S. Air Force aims to drive technological innovation and recruit top talent. The Miami Invitational will also highlight Infinite Reality’s cutting-edge AI and 3D web technologies, offering fans new immersive experiences.
Barry Dickey, Chief of Strategic Marketing for Air Force Recruiting Services, expressed pride in the partnership’s role in fostering future STEM leaders. He noted that this collaboration empowers a new generation of pilots and engineers to advance technology and aviation.
