Martin Rumenov Apogee Entertainment and developer Trigger Happy Interactive have announced Total Chaos VR Edition, a virtual-reality adaptation of the survival horror game that will launch soon for Steam VR.
Players who already own Total Chaos on Steam will receive the VR version at no extra charge. A separate release is also planned for Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S through the Meta Horizon Store, where it can be wishlisted now. Pricing and a release date for the Quest edition have yet to be revealed.
A New Way to Survive Fort Oasis
Rather than functioning as a straightforward headset conversion, Total Chaos VR Edition has been redesigned around VR interaction. The developers have adjusted certain areas, encounters, item placements, and resource distribution to better fit the pacing and physicality of virtual reality.
The game sends players into Fort Oasis, a ruined island settlement that was once home to a coal-mining community. Its abandoned tunnels, decaying buildings, and narrow corridors are now overrun by hostile creatures, forcing players to search for supplies, manage limited inventory space, craft equipment, and fight at close range.
Virtual reality should make the game’s central survival-horror elements more immediate, with players physically handling their tools and weapons while navigating the island’s increasingly hostile environments. Returning players can also expect a less familiar route through Fort Oasis due to the rebalanced resources and revised scenarios.

Key elements of Total Chaos VR Edition include:
- A fully immersive visit to Fort Oasis, including its abandoned mines, cramped interiors, and monster-filled ruins.
- VR-specific changes to encounters and environmental sequences.
- Revised loot locations and survival resources designed to keep experienced players uncertain.

- Free Steam VR access for existing Steam owners of Total Chaos.
- A standalone Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S release planned for a later date.
From DOOM II Mod to Standalone Horror Game
Total Chaos began life as an award-winning total-conversion mod for DOOM II before evolving into a standalone survival horror title. The game blends environmental storytelling, resource management, crafting, and psychological horror across nine chapters set on the isolated Fort Oasis.
Players uncover the island’s history through notes, locations, and unsettling encounters while facing enemies with distinct behaviors and attack patterns. The base game also includes New Game+, which adds further narrative material, an alternate ending, new areas, additional death animations, and a persistent pursuer called The Hunter.
The soundtrack features an original theme and end-credits song from Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka, alongside music by Jason Dagenet, William Braddell, Chipper Hammond, Tim Stoney, and Mathieu Hallouin.
Total Chaos is currently available on PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, as well as on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. The Steam version is priced at $24.99, while the upcoming VR Edition will be included for existing Steam owners.
