Buffalo Buffalo is celebrating the first anniversary of its musical action-adventure game Fresh Tracks with a major content update, the debut of a dedicated VR edition, and a discounted Steam bundle for existing players.

The Vancouver-based studio confirmed that Fresh Tracks VR launches on SteamVR on September 10. On the same date, the original game will receive a new Playlist Mode across Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation, giving players more freedom to build their own runs through the game’s music-driven world.

Fresh Tracks VR arrives on SteamVR

A year after the original release, players will be able to experience the snowy world of Norwyn from an entirely new perspective in Fresh Tracks VR. The virtual-reality version brings the core music-focused gameplay into SteamVR, allowing players to revisit its tracks and environments with motion-based controls.

Players who already own the flat-screen Steam release will not need to start from scratch. Buffalo Buffalo is offering a 50% discount when completing the Steam bundle, making it cheaper to add the VR version to an existing library.

The studio has also included an option to migrate progression from the standard version into Fresh Tracks VR. Existing unlocks and save progress can carry over automatically, although the developer recommends that returning players use one of the game’s three save slots for a new file in order to get accustomed to the redesigned VR tutorial and controls.

Playlist Mode lets players create custom runs

The anniversary update also introduces Playlist Mode to both the VR and standard editions of Fresh Tracks.

Instead of playing through the usual progression structure, players can select their preferred songs and create a custom five-track trail. Each chosen song flows into the next after a level is completed, creating a more continuous run built around personal music preferences.

The update additionally includes Scenic Mode, a more laid-back option intended for players who want to enjoy Norwyn’s wintry landscapes and musical atmosphere without focusing as heavily on the game’s challenge.
