The iconic Orcs Must Die universe is stepping into virtual reality. Orcs Must Die: By The Blade, developed by Bogotá-based Teravision Games in collaboration with Robot Entertainment, reimagines the beloved action-tower defense formula with a ground-up VR design that emphasizes melee combat, visceral action, and fan-favorite trap mechanics. Launching exclusively for Meta Quest on January 22, 2026, the game marks the first time players can truly feel what it’s like to battle orcs face-to-face.
From Tower Defense to Hands-On Carnage
Unlike the traditional third-person gameplay that defined the original series, By The Blade fully embraces immersion through hand-tracked combat and physical movement. Every sword swing, block, and counterattack feels physical, rewarding precision and timing in ways only VR can deliver. While smart trap placement remains at the core of the franchise, close-quarters melee and ranged combat now take center stage.
The game features:
- Dynamic VR Combat: Engage in one-to-one sword duels with realistic physics and timing.
- Immersive Movement: Explore freely with full motion and embodied interaction.
- Strategic Traps: Deploy iconic defenses alongside your melee arsenal.
- Exclusive VR Scenarios: Levels designed specifically for Meta Quest to make the most of the medium.
A Campaign of Chaos and Legacy

Spanning three chapters and twelve levels, By The Blade delivers a full campaign with returning heroes Max and Gabby. Players can expect a blend of classic Orcs Must Die humor, lore, and new VR-driven storytelling. Each environment encourages exploration, as secrets and challenges await those willing to look beyond the chaos.
An upgrade and progression system deepens replayability, offering 15 weapons and 15 traps that can be enhanced with elemental effects. Combat variety is key — from crushing orcs with your sword to frying them in lava traps.
Bringing Co-Op to VR Battles
Recognizing that defending rifts is best done side by side, By The Blade features full co-op integration. Players can team up as Max and Gabby to complete the campaign collaboratively, coordinating traps, sharing strategies, and managing the overwhelming hordes together — creating a uniquely chaotic and social VR experience.

A Studio with VR Pedigree
Teravision Games brings its previous VR experience from Captain Toonhead vs. The Punks from Outer Space (2021) into this project, evolving its tower-defense roots into a new level of physical immersion. While Captain Toonhead focused on humor and ranged combat, By The Blade now goes all-in on embodiment and physicality — a natural progression for both the developer and the franchise.
Creative Director LD Zambrano described the project as “a full-circle dream,” highlighting Orcs Must Die as a key inspiration for Captain Toonhead. Design Director Cesar Solis Galindo called it “chaotic fun,” reveling in the close-up combat now possible in VR.
From Bogotá to the Rift
Founded in 2006, Teravision Games has developed over 80 titles and collaborated with major entertainment brands including MGM, Skybound, and Nickelodeon. Partnering with Robot Entertainment — the creators of the original Orcs Must Die trilogy — the studio aims to blend Latin American creativity with a globally beloved franchise.
Orcs Must Die: By The Blade launches January 22, 2026, exclusively on Meta Quest.
