Maze Theory is taking players aboard the Hail Mary for a new mixed-reality adventure inspired by Andy Weir’s bestselling sci-fi novel. Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars is planned to launch in autumn 2026 for Meta Quest, PICO and Android XR devices.
A new chapter aboard the Hail Mary
Developed and published by UK-based studio Maze Theory, Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars places players in the role of Ryland Grace during a previously unseen part of the Hail Mary mission.
The story centres on Grace and Rocky, his alien friend and fellow crewmate, as they face a crisis that threatens both their vessel and the precious cargo it carries. Their objective is to keep the Hail Mary operational long enough to reach Eridani, Rocky’s home world and a planet that has also become Grace’s potential new home.
Rather than retelling the entire story of the novel, the game introduces an original scenario designed specifically for an interactive mixed-reality format. Players will experience the pressure of humanity’s last hope from inside the spacecraft, where every malfunction could place the wider mission at risk.

Mixed reality turns your room into the spacecraft
The upcoming title will combine the player’s physical surroundings with the interior of the Hail Mary. Through mixed reality, elements of the ship and its systems will appear within the player’s own space, creating the feeling of working inside an increasingly unstable deep-space environment.
Players will need to inspect damaged equipment, identify the causes of critical technical failures and create improvised fixes using scientific and engineering principles. Ship management will also be a major part of the experience, with the mission’s cargo requiring protection as the journey through space becomes more dangerous.
The game’s premise puts a strong emphasis on collaboration. Rocky will play a central role in helping Grace overcome disasters, with the experience exploring trust, communication and the bond between two beings from entirely different species.
