Synth Riders, the acclaimed VR rhythm game, has just introduced a chaotic twist for players across Meta Quest, SteamVR, and PlayStation VR2 with its latest free update: Challenges+. This new feature, now available, brings a fresh layer of unpredictability and excitement to the game’s asynchronous Challenges mode, daring players to overcome a barrage of new obstacles designed to disrupt high score runs.
Alien Invaders and Devious Power-Ups Arrive
With the Challenges+ update, alien invaders make their debut, targeting players with missiles that must be punched or dodged. But the chaos doesn’t stop there. The update takes Power-Ups—previously exclusive to multiplayer battles—and injects them into solo Challenges, letting the developers directly ramp up the difficulty for everyone.
A New Gauntlet of Obstacles
Players can expect a variety of new modifiers and hazards, including:
- Invaderz: Alien missiles to punch or dodge.
- Warp: Gameplay speeds up and stretches, simulating a hyperspace jump.
- Embiggen: Notes become much larger.
- Minimize: Notes shrink, increasing the challenge.
- Prismatic: Notes transform into rainbows for a visual twist.
- Vanish: Notes disappear, turning rails into nodes and testing memory.
- Random Colors: The four note colors are shuffled to confuse players.

Each track’s Challenge is curated by the Synth Riders team, but the precise placement of these traps is determined algorithmically, ensuring that obstacles appear at the most disruptive moments in each song.
