The Lightkeepers Brings Lovecraftian Co-op Horror to Meta Quest

The Lightkeepers, a new cooperative survival game steeped in Lovecraft-inspired horror, has launched for Meta Quest. Developed by Spectral Games, the studio behind Medieval Dynasty New Settlement, the VR title sends players into a haunted 1920s setting where surviving the night depends on one crucial objective: keep the lighthouse beacon alive until morning.

Priced at $19.99 USD, The Lightkeepers combines exploration, resource gathering, crafting, and wave-based defense in a supernatural world filled with mist-covered islands, ancient ruins, underground locations, and creatures emerging from the depths.

Survive the Day, Defend at Night

Each expedition begins with players accepting a contract, which determines the mission’s difficulty, length, and special conditions. From there, the crew must prepare for the dangers ahead by collecting supplies and coordinating a plan.

During daylight hours, players can travel by boat between dangerous islands, looking for materials, investigating ruins, solving puzzles, and descending into forgotten underground areas. The resources found during these trips are vital for making it through the night.

Once darkness falls, the focus shifts to defending the lighthouse. Horrors from the deep begin attacking in relentless waves, forcing players to build fortifications, deploy traps, and fight to prevent the light from being extinguished.

The game supports both solo play and co-op, though surviving as a complete crew is designed to feel substantially different. Players can divide tasks between exploration, crafting, healing, feeding teammates, laying mines, and holding defensive positions when the attacks begin.

Crafting, Combat, and Long-Term Progression

The Lightkeepers includes more than 20 weapons, allowing players to approach combat in different ways. Alongside conventional weapons, players can craft and use items such as grenades, mines, and healing supplies, while defensive structures can help delay or redirect incoming enemies.

The hand-built island locations are also intended to add replay value, featuring varying layouts, puzzles, dungeons, and threats across repeated missions. Between runs, players can unlock and improve starting weapons, while also earning cosmetic rewards for their characters.

Rather than relying on a single fixed campaign path, the contract system gives each outing its own setup and pressure points. A crew may need to prioritize scavenging on one run, prepare more heavily for combat on another, or adapt when resources are scarce and the lighthouse is under siege.

The Lightkeepers VR story and weapons

A 1920s Nightmare at Sea

The game’s setting draws heavily from cosmic horror, placing players in an eerie 1920s world where mysterious islands and a volatile sea conceal dangerous secrets. The lighthouse serves as both a defensive stronghold and the group’s lifeline—if its beam goes out, the darkness can take everything.

Spectral Games CEO Paweł Sobik described the title as a world where defending the light is central to every journey, whether players are creating their own stories alone or fighting alongside friends.

With its mix of sea travel, cooperative survival systems, horror combat, and lighthouse defense, The Lightkeepers offers Meta Quest players a new VR co-op experience built around making it to dawn against increasingly overwhelming odds.
