VMX Brings BMX, Mountain Biking and Scooter Riding to VR on October 2

Break Free Interactive is preparing to launch VMX, a VR extreme-sports game built around BMX, mountain bikes and scooters. Arriving on October 2, 2026, the title will be available for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3 and PCVR headsets.

Rather than using standard controller-button inputs to pull off tricks, VMX aims to make riding feel more hands-on through gesture-based controls and a dedicated physics system. Players will use physical movements to build speed, choose lines, launch from ramps and attempt tricks in the air, with the game designed to place an emphasis on natural handling and freedom of movement.

Physical Trick Controls Take Centre Stage

VMX’s core concept is to make players feel more connected to their virtual ride. The game uses motion-driven inputs for tricks, allowing riders to perform actions with their hands and body instead of relying entirely on memorised button combinations.

That approach extends to both casual riding and score-focused play. Players can explore environments at their own pace, repeat sections to refine a trick, search for more creative routes through a park, or try to put together a high-scoring run.

The game will support three ride types at launch:

  • BMX bikes
  • Mountain bikes
  • Scooters

Each option gives players a different way to approach ramps, tracks and skatepark-style environments.

Five Maps Across Different Riding Styles

VMX will launch with five locations designed to support everything from relaxed free riding to competitive trick sessions. The available maps include an underpass skatepark, a desert dirt course, a Miami street-based park, a warehouse location at the docks and a large stadium with a megaramp.

The stadium is expected to deliver the most spectacle-heavy setting, with animated crowds surrounding its massive ramp setup. Meanwhile, the desert route should provide a more open mountain-bike-friendly environment, while the skateparks offer tighter lines and dedicated trick opportunities for BMX and scooter riders.

Players will be able to take on challenges, practice individual moves and simply ride around with friends. The range of maps is intended to give VMX a mix of technical park riding, dirt-track momentum and larger stunt-focused spaces.

VMX workshop

Workshop Offers Bike and Rider Customisation

Customisation will be handled through VMX’s Workshop, where players can personalise both their equipment and their avatar.

The game includes a spray-paint system that allows players to use a virtual spray can to recolour their bike. Riders can blend colours, create gradients and experiment with original paint designs rather than selecting only from preset skins.

Character customisation will also include clothing and protective gear. Helmets, goggles, full-face helmets, snapbacks and beanies are among the cosmetic options mentioned so far. Players can earn points while playing and use them in the in-game shop to unlock additional items.

Multiplayer Lets Friends Ride Together

Multiplayer is another major part of the VMX experience. Players will be able to join friends in the game’s maps, explore parks, practise tricks, complete challenges and compete for top scores.

This could range from a low-pressure session spent trying different lines to direct trick-based competitions. The focus appears to be on recreating the social side of action sports, where riders can spend time in the same environment, watch each other’s attempts and improve through repetition.

Comfort and Immersive Modes

Because fast movement in VR can be demanding, VMX will include two movement options.

Comfort Mode will be enabled by default and is designed to make the game easier to play for a wider range of VR users. It aims to reduce motion discomfort while players learn the environments, practise tricks and spend extended sessions riding.

For players who are already comfortable with more intense VR movement, Immersive Mode will offer a stronger sense of speed and physicality. Break Free Interactive recommends the higher-intensity option for experienced VR players, while Comfort Mode is positioned as the better starting point for most people.

VMX Release Date and Platforms

VMX launches on October 2, 2026, for:

  • Meta Quest 2
  • Meta Quest 3
  • PCVR headsets

With physical trick inputs, multiple ride types, five distinct maps, online sessions and detailed visual customisation, VMX is aiming to give VR players a more active take on BMX, MTB and scooter culture.
