Do you have a thing for shining weaponry, keen knightly blades and the metallic celestial song of blade-on-blade harmonies as you hack, stab and slash your way through dungeons, arenas and mountain tops? Well, you’re not the only one.

A fascination of medieval weaponry in videogames have been a thing for as long as there’s been electricity around. With emerging technology constantly pushing the envelope of what’s possible, those knight in shining armor fantasies have become more and more realistic. It’s not an accident that the immersive wonders that’s Asgaard’s Wrath, Blade & Sorcery and Shadow Legend were such a massive success. They both nailed the mix of tactile combat and an incredible atmosphere. We covered more about those particular titles in our device-neutral summary of the best sword fighting VR games of all time.

Full disclosure – while we would love to tell you that the list of current Quest 2 compatible sword fighting games is a vast and wide spanning one, the truth is less compelling unfortunately – we’re still in the early days and there’s really just a small handful of options for those of you whose joys in videogames come from swinging about big sticks.

With that in mind, we give you the 3 best sword fighting games currently available for the Oculus Quest 2:

Swords of Gargantua

We couldn’t get a list of today’s leading sword fighting games for the quest going without mentioning Swords of Gargantua right from the get-go. Amounting to Swords of Gargantua is an absolute blast to play and has plenty of replayability.

Requiring more than our next two games combined, Swords of Gargantua is a massive game. In it game you get to pick of a vast variety of weapons and skills to fight your way through the Tesseract Abyss. If you’re a fan of melee combat in general , and perhaps found yourself enjoying the melee fights in Skyrim or Blade & Sorcery, you’re in for a treat.

It’s got it all: tactile combat, damage figures, epic music, quests and an awesome array of weaponry. Not only do you get to swing a variety of swords as your make your way through the game – there’s maces and axes to work with too! Get in shape the fun way while having an absolute blast, and make sure to pay attention when levelling up – there’s quite a few ways you can custom tailor your fighter

Until You Fall

Until You Fall takes a fascinating visual approach to sword fighting. The art style is significantly more experimental than in Swords of Gargantua and you will see an absolute explosion of color and lively animations as you make your way through the game. In Until You Fall, you take on the role of a rune knight defending your home from invaders.

Prepare to dual-wield a plethora of weapons, shields and all manner of spells to stab, slash and pound your way through Until You Fall. One of our favourite features are the dash attacks, combining leap-like movement engaging in combat. The satisfaction from taking out a horde of enemies and upgrading your arsenal as a result is incredibly addictive.

Journey of the Gods

Journey of the Gods is a heroic tale full of melee combat and grand themes. In the game you get to venture into a vast and magical fantasy world where you engage in combat with malicious celstial agents of the nefarious Chaos Moon. Apart from the melee sword-slashing fun, there’s also a puzzle element to the whole thing, making Journey of the Gods more than just a jousting simulator.

We have dug up a killer presentation of the gameplay, so if you plan on acquiring Journey of the Gods sometime soon, make sure to check out Nathie’s awesome demo of what you can expect.

Summary: Best VR Sword Fighting Games for Oculus Quest 2

The Oculus Rift, Windows Mixed Reality and HTC Vive have all had a fair share of top-of-the-line VR-based fighting games (Gorn, Blade & Sorcery, Shadow Legends comes to mind) and we absolutely loved the deadly dance of slashing steel. That said, the fact that we’ve been tethered to the computer has really damaged and put a bit of an immersion blocker. After all, if your adrenaline is pumping away as you evade an axe being thrown at you and your wire suddenly gets caught in your laptop, the edge of the table or God help you, the family dog – no more sword fight.

With the addition of the Oculus Quest 2 to the market though, we’re now even more free to swing about our controllers in adrenaline-inducing dances of metal and shields. With that all said, we reach the end of today’s. We hope you enjoyed some of these VR sword fighting games for the Oculus Quest 2. We’ll keep adding more titles to the mix as soon as they are made available.
