Updated – December 21, added more information about Boxer Vilkas, part of the Winter Extreme Event.
War Thunder, an iconic game that has been around for 10 years, has launched a new Christmas and New Eve’s Event, allowing players to get their hands on some of the more advanced planes and machines and also to be able to acquire some of past Christmas events’ items. With an average ranking 7/10 and receiving over 433,000 reviews on Steam, most of them “mostly positive”, this flagship of the Warfare VR Games is one of a kind that offers so much and continues to offer more to its fans around the globe. Gaijin Entertainment, also creators of “Crossout“, “CRSED: F.O.A.D.” and “Star Conflict” has another surprise for their mostly devoted fans.
As winter takes hold, the popular vehicular combat MMO, War Thunder, is heating things up with its Winter Extreme event. Running from December 20th, 2023, until January 9th, 2024, the event offers players a chance to earn a variety of rewards, including high-rank event vehicles, trophies, decals, camouflages, player icons, and decorations.
The Winter Extreme event is a unique opportunity for players to obtain items from past winter events. From December 20th until January 15th, the “Snowman” and its “Carrot” will be available for purchase in the Item Store, offering unique decals, decorations, vehicles, and camouflages from all past War Thunder winter events.
The event is structured around random battles, where players earn mission points to unlock rewards. To get one Mark of Distinction for a tanker, pilot, or sailor, players need to earn 40,000 mission points in random battles in Rank III or higher (from Rank I for event vehicles) in the corresponding vehicle type and game mode.
This year, the event has a special focus on pilots. Last year’s low-tier premium was given to tankers, but this time, pilots are in for a treat. The main aircraft prize of the “Winter Extreme” event is the French Mirage 2000C-S4 jet fighter, featuring excellent acceleration and high top speed 16. Another notable prize is the J9 Early, a modified export variant of the American P-35 single-seat fighter operated by the Swedish Air Force throughout WWII.
For ground forces, the Boxer Vilkas, a light tank for Germany at Rank VII, is one of the prizes in this year’s winter event 8. The event also includes a variety of other prizes, such as Silver Lions, boosters, universal backups, wagers, and others.

However, it has light protection, suggesting that it’s not designed to face off high-caliber cannons and ATGMs head-on. Another notable feature is its crewless turret
