Home Becomes the Battleground

Digital Lode, headquartered in Melbourne, Australia, has officially unveiled Espire: MR Missions at the VR Games Showcase. Unlike traditional VR games, this standalone title transforms your physical environment into the core of Espire operations. By scanning your room through Meta Quest 2, 3, 3s, and Pro headsets, every wall, door, and piece of furniture becomes integral to the mission landscape. Players physically move, crouch, and hide throughout their own living spaces, replacing stick-based movement with real locomotion.

Dynamic Mixed Reality Gameplay

When a scan completes, Espire: MR Missions adapts your home to suit each operation. Blank walls morph into roller doors leading to remote outposts, hallways become windows into snow-laden bases, and hidden missile silos seem to open beneath your feet. Each scenario organically connects your surroundings to Espire’s universe, making simple furniture part of stealth maneuvers and firefights.

Evolution From Espire 2

Espire: MR Missions development from Espire 2

Originally an experimental mode for Espire 2—the award-winning VR stealth game—Espire: MR Missions has evolved into its own dedicated experience. Players who already own Espire 2 will receive MR Missions for free at launch, while newcomers can get a bundle of both games from the Meta Quest Store.

Mission Variety and Features

At launch, the game boasts 29 missions tailored to real-world layouts. Twenty-one missions are designed for single-room play, while eight utilize multi-room or open floor plans. Objectives cover Elimination, Stealth, Intel collection, Target Shooting, and Dexterity, encouraging mastery of Espire’s unique toolkit—like tranquilizer launchers, threat-marking vision, slow-motion powers, and an on-body inventory system.

Highlights:

  • Each room scan creates a bespoke tactical challenge, changing with your furniture, walls, and ceiling.
  • The Espire Spatial Adaptation System populates each space with patrol routes, hazards, and objectives, offering unique scenarios every playthrough.
  • Missions encourage body-driven stealth: move, crouch, or pivot physically to avoid detection and take out OPHIS patrols.
  • Advanced progression unlocks new cheats and leaderboards, rewarding skillful, replay-focused gameplay.
  • Espire: MR Missions introduces new enemy types and hazards—from flying drones to trip-mines—making no two games alike.

Players can interact with the environment directly: hiding in lockers placed against actual walls, flipping breaker switches, and dragging virtual bodies, all mapped seamlessly onto their real living space. Detection remains a constant threat, emphasizing physical stealth and precise movement.
